Phillips Family Customer Story

After spending years renovating their pre-owned single wide mobile home, Elizabeth and Dale Phillips lost it all in flood damage. Looking for a fresh start, they decided to purchase a new home from Clayton Homes of Brenham, allowing them to be under budget and have less renovations to work on.

When they originally purchased their pre-owned 1987 single wide mobile home in 2010, Elizabeth and Dale Phillips were not expecting to become self-taught renovation experts. However, that’s just what happened! Elizabeth began blogging about their journey from painting the exterior to transforming a shower into a spacious closet.

After living in and renovating the space for years, the Brazos River near their home overflowed and caused flood damage, rendering the house inhabitable so the hunt for a new home began.

Elizabeth and Dale started searching for a site-built home but realized they weren’t going to be able to find everything they wanted within their budget. They also knew they didn’t want to redo an entire home again.

That’s when the couple turned to Clayton Homes of Brenham where Home Consultant David helped them with the homebuying journey. David was attentive to the couple’s story of loss and took notes about what they needed in their new living space.

David showed them the Anniversary model, and it was an instant hit. Just two months later, the home was delivered to their property. While this home did not require the arduous work that their old home did, the Phillips still planned to make some fun renovations to the space.

"With our new home, we were able to focus more on the fun parts of renovating and less on the harder projects like our old home," Elizabeth said.

One of the best decisions they made was to set their home up higher off the ground and on a more solid foundation to avoid another flooding tragedy. It didn’t take long for the house to be tested when Hurricane Harvey blew through, forcing the Philips to evacuate. Despite 32 inches of rain in the neighborhood, the waters never touched the inside of the home! The Phillips couldn’t be happier with their choice to go with a Clayton Built ® manufactured home!
